This is a transcript of the video interview below with Juan Fernando about a couple of favorite foods in the Galapagos Islands.
Our restaurant on Floreana Island belongs to a family that was actually the first Ecuadorian family to arrive on Floreana Island. They are the Cruz family and they have very special cuisine, homemade cuisine. Their specialty is the muchines – they are made of yuca with cheese and a spicy sauce. But, you know, there is never enough, there is never enough for our guests – they just love it.
I’ve noticed that the tree tomato is well received in the Galapagos by our foreign guests. It is a tomato but it is a fruit and they don’t have it in their country. It is an interesting fact – that we have a tomato that is not a vegetable – it is a fruit. They are drinking a juice made of tomato. They are always skeptical about trying tomato juice because it is a vegetable – but in the case of the tree tomato it is a fruit not a vegetable.
